I hatched out two dozen black copper marans chicks in Jan. I ended up hatching out well over half little-roos! The brooder is getting crowded, and I need to decide which ones the kids should keep for 4H and which ones to sell. I purchased hatching eggs from reputable breeders, but was surprised at how many of them have sprigs on their combs. I also have a bunch that have "wavy" combs ( they lean off to the side). I am just looking for some advice on which ones you would keep. I know the sprigs are considered a defect - not a disqualification. But I am not sure what will happen to the wavy-combed ones. Do these turn into big floppy/crooked combs when they get older???? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
