Which of these breeds would you recommend?

Pics
The Isa brown and the golden comet. Excellent high production breeds that are spent (done laying) by 2-3.
I'm a fan of BR too and love the numbers a leghorn can produce but not a fan of white chickens. I had a brown leghorn produce past 8. I'm going with silver leghorn this year. Tons more good choices out there.
And the Exchequer leghorn. On my list!

I have heard that Barred Rock roosters are some of the best for temperament.
Eek not mine
My Barred Rock rooster so far is very nice (he is over 7 months old). My barred rock hen is very nice too.
Eeek, not mine. Nasty, too used to try kick me in the face if I got close to the hens. Will not get another. But, Hens are lovely.

We are considering adding a couple of more chickens to our flock and are considering breeds that are consistent and great layers (good personality is a bonus). These are the ones we are considering:
-Barred Rock
-White Leghorn
-Isa Brown
-Golden Comet

Which would you recommend?

They would be joining a Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Light Brahma, Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex & Black Australorp.
We have white leghorns, jersey giants, red sex links, golden laced, and RIR, raised right, they are great layers. Out of 22 ladies, we average 15 to 18 eggs a day and we are in montana in the dead of winter. The leg horns are extremely friendly and attention hounds. My wife's favorite, and the queens for getting petted.

Golden Comets and ISA Browns are pleasant birds but you will only have eggs for three summers and they start having reproductive issues. White leghorns are great layers and they don’t tend to eat as much in my experience. I don’t have to worry about fat leghorns LOL. These are actually the three breeds we keep around. Great layers

White Leg Horns are such great layers! Very consistent to. Ours lays almost daily!!!👍😍🐓

I agree with you chipmunk chip - I have gotten a lot of eggs from hatchery birds. I have lost birds to predators, and am positive if I spend $9 on a chick, that is the one they will take first.

Really you can't go terribly wrong if you just get chicks where you can, raise them up best you can. Some will die, that is a fact of life. I kind of wonder on the snob value too.

I like the way you think, very matter of fact, don't sweat the small stuff.

Not the Leghorns!! I ended up rehoming mine because they were too aggressive. I have Barred Rock, Brahmas, Speckled Sussex, and Barnevelders. My barnevelder lays the biggest eggs so far and has a wonderful personality, as do all my others…
I found a local hatchery source for bantams and they have Speckled Sussex! They are expecting a hatch next week, and I told them to sign me up. Sussex appear to be a nice bantam breed with good egg production and friendliness.
