They are looking really good. They are all goldfish, the brown one will eventually color up, I haven't had one not, though occasionally they stay brown for a while. How are you liking them? They could be around for quite a long time with proper care, which it looks like you are providing. I still have most of my original ones I bought back in 2003. They have outlived my dogs, and are big enough to eat, though of course I would never do that.

Gerbils are quick. I was going to originally get a guinea pig, but switched to gerbils for easier maintenance. I currently don't have the time to handle mine or, or I should say I don't want to take the time to handle them, and I felt guinea pigs needed more interaction. I did have one like 30 years ago, but don't remember doing anything with it but feed it. I don't take my gerbils out because they would be eaten by the dogs.

Be sure to share your adventures with a guinea pig if you get one as I will be interested to see how owning one goes for you, so I can do my own planning as far as housing and expected care.

i would go for the gecko (leopard), as for the fact i had one, it was nice animal they where fun to feed but my gecko got sick and died. a few years ago.

First, you need to do plenty of research on each species, don't ever buy on a whim due to boredom, these are real living creatures that truly rely on full hands on care.

Second, be prepared to devote some time and money.

Third, If you're looking for something to cuddle get a dog, most of these species prefer to be left alone and its best to honor that, I know I honor that.

1. Guinea pigs - I've had them, although cute and cuddly looking be forewarned some prefer to be left alone.
2. Rabbits - I have one now, I keep him outside in a run, the previous owner kept him inside in a cage which I felt was too small rabbits need room to roam.
3. Gerbils - Don't live that long so be forewarned.
4. Mice - Also don't live that long but they're extremely smart.
5. Rats - I have two albino males, they prefer to be left alone so I honor that and I do love them dearly.
6. Snake - I've had a few in my lifetime, and now I have a Ball Python, I recommend only getting a snake after plenty of research, they take certain bedding, heat, and humidity, etc.
7. Bearded Dragon - No, not for a beginner.
8. Gecko (leopard or crested) - I have a Leo, he's not that hard to keep but like a snake he too requires a certain temp and humidity, be prepared to do research if you intend to keep reptiles.
9. Birds (parakeets or cockatiel) - I have budgies, finches, a severe macaw, and a red headed Mexican Amazon. I recommend budgies possibly for a beginner, but even they demand certain requirements.
10. Turtle - I have an eastern box turtle, I also have raised Japanese water turtles. Again research, research, research. They need certain requirements depending on the species typically they need a light that not only gives off heat but mimics the sun to keep their shell healthy, so on and so forth.

IMO rats make the best pets. Can learn their name, come when called, my adult daughters rats are allowed to roam her bedroom (door shut), & she takes them for car rides & into Petco/Petsmart. She's always freaking out the servers in the drive-thrus when she's got them riding on her shoulders!
