Which Red Chicken?

Well, a whole lot of chicks end up not being what the hatchery says they are. Sexing isn't an exact science by any means. LOL

Well, it'll either lay or crow, that's for sure. At 16 weeks, BeccaPorter will know for sure.

Here is a pair at that same age. The pullet (on top) has no red showing. The cockerel (below) has about that same amount of red comb at 8 1/2 weeks. He also has those thick legs. Not a great photo of the cockerel's head, but if you click the photo to make it larger, you can he has little starter wattles sprouting. She doesn't. But, these are heritage RIR. The production models do indeed mature more quickly.
wow those are beautiful!! Do you breed heritage RIR's?
 
I breed English type Orpingtons and am planing on adding at least one other breed and Heritage RIR's were among some of my top choices...I will have to remember you if I decide to get some!
