Which Rooster Goes

I just got a RIR last weekend, and he's nice enough (actually scared of me) but...I have leghorns, and he's TWICE their size if not more. He's beautiful tho. But if size is an issue, he's not your guy.

I have a 15 week old cream colored EE roo that I've named Buddy. Buddy is exactly that, my buddy. When I go out to sit with my kids, Buddy jumps right up in my lap. I put him down and he jumps right back up there. He loves to crow while he's sitting on me. I think that I am his main chick. This guy has had the sweetest personality from hatch until now. He knows his name and will come to me when I call him up. He never pecks the girls or seems overly bossy, and he will call them to the treats I bring.

I also have 3 other roos, 2 of which are prettier than Buddy. Guess who's staying.

Buddy's my man and I hope to have him a long, long time and I hope that he'll always be this sweet and gentle.

Truthfully, you won't know until he begins mating the ladies and the hormones are raging, about 16-20 weeks. That's when the personality really emerges. Had a very friendly cockerel that my DH adored. The boy began little acts of aggression, but would still like to sit on DH's shoulder...later, he'd bite or flog. He was about 15 weeks old at the time he went bad. The one I finally chose was more standoffish, but now, as he has matured, he is a real gem. He is friendly now, but I don't try to baby him or pick him up. I give him his space and he follows me all over the place. The super friendly ones can be sizing you up and if you baby them alot, they may decide they can take you on. It's such an individual thing with roosters.
