I placed my eggs in a new incubator last night. The temperature reading on the incubator is reading exactly how I need it but the temperature reading I’m getting on a little hand-held thermometer is saying 97*f. The thermometer is sitting at level with the eggs so I’m wondering which one do I trust??

One or both could be reading inaccurately. You need to make sure whichever you’re trusting is calibrated. What kinds of incubator and secondary thermometer do you have?

I believe the incubator is “opps decor” brand, just a simple made-in-China incubator and the secondary thermometer is “habor” brand.

I don’t even know how to calibrate either one 😕

There are a couple of ways to calibrate your thermometer. If you have a medical thermometer, compare the reading to that. Medical thermometers tend to be pretty accurate. Another way to test the accuracy is to fill a glass with ice and wait for it to melt. Once the glass is about half ice half water, you stick the thermometer into the glass and give it a few minutes to adjust, and the temperature should read 32 degrees. If it doesn’t, however far off of 32 it is is how far off of the actual temperature the thermometer reads. So if it reads 31, you add 1 to whatever it says, and if it reads 33, you subtract 1.
