Not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but my wife and I are going to be taking several chickens to Lucasville in October and other than the various breeds/mixes we are going to get rid of, we were considering getting a breeding pair of chickens/purebred, and raising them separate from the others and just keep hatching their eggs. My thinking is that a breed like a Lavender Orpington or a Russian Orloff would be popular because they are somewhat unique, and will draw attention, while still being useful birds for eggs or meat. My wife on the other hand likes "pretty birds" like Polish, frizzled, silkies, etc. Then there are the common breeds such as the barred rocks, golden comets, etc. that are everywhere but seem popular.
In anybody's experience, which types of birds are the best sellers at swapmeets like these? Pretty, Unique, or working class?
Hope this makes sense.
