I am wanting to change my watering system to a lidded bucket with the nipples. I have been looking at nipples and am not sure which ones I need to order and which ones are best. I have seen push in and screw in types. I am planning on using an old cat litter bucket and a home depot bucket.

Also, I was considering using an aquarium heater to keep the water from freezing in the winter...will this be sufficient or should I consider something else?

Thanks in advance for all the help/suggestions you may have.

Considering the situation you have described the push-in would probably be best.
If you PM me your eMail address I will send you a link for the place to order the best ones from.

these
are the ones i use and are happy w them. i drill three holes in the bucket and screw them in but i space them out so that my round deicer will fit inside them on the inside of the bucket

i like these cuz they are made so they can be disassembled for cleaning and are pretty maint free and they are cheap lol

i do however have some of the push in style handy if i happen to have a problem waterer or i screw up a hole

this is the deicer i use http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALLIED-BIRD-BATH-DE-ICER-250-watts-BTD250-Free-Shipping-/350492766271?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519aff303f

its
a little pricey but it works good and has for 5 yrs

it have tried exp with aquarium heaters and have had no luck as well as some exploding causeing shock so i stay away from them
do some searching and ull find most warn against them too

I used the same nipple fittings as above from ebay. I put teflon tape around the threads and have not had one leak. I like a 25 watt heater for the 5gal bucket but wouldn't hesitate to go to 50 watts in the northern states. I prefer the shatter proof kind but use the glass ones as well so long as they are secured well and are placed where they will always be under the waterline. Check ebay or BigAls Online for heater prices.

I bought & installed push-in nipples (from Neil Grassbaugh) and they're working great! No leaks and only minutes to install.
