I would not consider 1 1/2 hours to be too long a drive. Where I live, you don't go anywhere without driving at least 1/2 hour. Hubby drives an hour just to get to work.

If confirmed blue is your goal, get the sure thing. A bird in hand, is worth 2 in the bush. Unless you just like taking chances.

It takes me an hour to drive across town. 1.5 hours during rush hour.

x3. I drive an hour each way to work, and that drive to get the birds you really want is actually pretty short, IMO. The issue is, will you be able to NOT get them if you aren't impressed when you arrive?! Pictures in advance would be good, but try not to 'feel sorry' for birds that look unwell. Don't bring them home!
I only buy day-old chicks from safe hatcheries, or sometimes very good breeders, because of biosecurity concerns.
