What on earth is my hen's problem??? I have 1 Easter Egger that laid her first egg on Tuesday and 2 Rhode Island Reds that are CONSTANTLY clucking the most obnoxious whiny cluck. The other chickens just seem to steer clear of them and none of the others are doing it to the amount these two are. A couple do it occasionally, as they look around the coop (eyeing up the nest??) It is a mixture of the "egg song" and "OMG I'm lost, where is everyone?!?!?!" The two have been away from the flock most of the time this week. Are they about to lay and are looking for somewhere to nest? It is starting to border on annoying as they do this from 6:30am when I let them out until bedtime. They are on our back patio most of the time, and will calm if I go outside.

I think it is the "OMG where is the flock leader", you. When they get ready to first lay, it unsettles them. Their behavior changes and they do things they don't know why they are doing them. I can't predict what their characters will be after they settle into laying.

One of them laid an egg for me this afternoon and was content the rest of the day!
