White Americauna Roo with a Barred Rock Hen

1000

No but I would be interested in some pics too. My Roo is not white but he has some Ameraucana traits. So far I have just taken all the blue eggs from my hens and hatched them ( they are only 4 weeks old so the verdict is still out on their coloring). Please post pics of your babies if you get some--genetics is so interesting!!

I will. My all white americauna roo is rare from what I ve been told, so it makes even more interesting to know what I will get.

My plan is to just let the hen take care of her own, but I have a brooder ready to go if plan changes. I have been dealing with chicken snakes since spring started.

I just hope that chicks get the same docile trait as roo and hen. Both very docile.

I would worry about the chicken snakes, a lot of chickens have been found with snakes underneath them - taking eggs, and the hen never noticed. I wouldn't notice either because I probably would have fainted. I would think you would need very tiny openings in wire to keep them out, like 1/4" hardware cloth. I hope you have a safe hatch

Yes my hen house is very secure from sunset to sunrise, I open the door around 5 a.m. every morning. My brooder is secure 24/7. I got great news!!!!! 2 chicks hatched yesterday afternoon...all black with a lil yellow on belly. As of now I am letting hen mother the chicks. She is very dedicated as well as protective. The chicks, the hen and the rest of my hens and roo are all in the same area and seem to get along.
I know all about the chicken snakes under the hay in boxes. I learned real quick the first time I discovered a snake was when I reached in to grab eggs and I grabbed a snake....I bout ****** my self. Whats crazy is that this hen has fought off 5 different chicken snakes(not at the same time) she has yet to lose an egg. They have eaten eggs from the other boxes that my other hens have layed.

2 chicks have hatched, still waiting on 10 others.
