White bug on the back of pullet's head?

I was looking at a 3 month old pullet I recently bought from someone and I saw a little white bug on her. It was teeny! It was moving around the back of her head. I know it wasn't a mite because I checked her for mites, and it's rare for chickens to get them under a year old anyways. I only saw one bug, and I have no clue what it was. Just in case though, I powdered her and the cockerel I got with her lightly tonight before I put them in their bed.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking too. Do you think the powder for mites would work for lice too? It's called Permerctrin: Fly and Louse Dust. And should I keep the two seperated for a while from my other chickens?

No problem. I guess they call it louse dust for same reason they call it "fly dust" or a mouse trap a "mouse trap". Flies dust and mice trap don't sound right.

I wouldn't think you'd need to separate them, just treat them all.

I've been keeping the pullet and cockerel seperated from the others ever since I brought them home. So I guess what I was asking was if I should keep them away from the others until I know they're fully treated. There's kind of an obvious answer there, but I figured I'd ask anyways. My other chickens don't have lice or mites.

it does sound like lice .this is what i would do, ive raised bird 30 years.lice are a big problem.lice allso love people.im itching just thinking about it.i use Diatomaceous earth (food grade)dust birds (all birds)the coop.and all so put it in the feed to get rid of internal parasites.this powder is safe ,non toxic.. Permerctrin.is toxic.good luck www.organicworldproducts.com

Thank you, but I have two kinds of Permectrin. One is the powder, which I apply directly to my chickens, and the other is the spray, which I spray the coops with once every two months. The powder hasn't seemed to do any harm for me, and I bought it back when some of my chickens had mites. It got rid of them within the week. It works wonderfuly!

Wait, people can get the lice from chickens? I thought chicken lice only stayed on chickens? I've never had lice myself before, which is why I'm asking.
