i have this one quirky polish pullet whos about 16 weeks old, she’s always done this thing where whenever she takes a nap during the day, she’s splayed out and her face is in the dirt. i’ve never seen any other one of my chickens do this. she will be completely content, wings out, legs splayed, neck extended into the dirt, and sometimes she looks like she’s barely breathing. when she was little, i would get worried and i would wake her up from her daily naps to check if she was still alive (she genuinely looked dead lol). she’s always full of energy and playful when she’s awake, so i don’t think anything’s wrong with her. i was wondering if maybe it was just something polish chickens did, i heard they had quirky personalities and she’s my first polish chick. i don’t have a photo of her sleeping since she always wakes up when i try and snap one, but i think she’s adorable. does anyone else have a chicken that does that?

oh she’s not sunbathing, she’s just napping lol. i have a hen who falls over in the sun. but this pullet naturally does this when she falls asleep. i tried to get a photo of her sleeping today! it’s hard to tell from the photos since it was super bright out today, but she was sleeping under some plants on top of one of our soil bags.

She’s a beauty! When you said she’s face down in the dirt I was not envisioning a bag of potting soil 🤣 Great pics!
she’s usually in the dirt, but i’ve kept that bag of potting soil there because she loved sitting on it when i repotted some roses. her neck hangs off the bag though, lol. she’s beautiful, but we have to trim her hair reaaally short around her face because she can’t see that well otherwise. i love giving her haircuts every 2 weeks or so

If you ever do get a pic of her spread-eagled face down in the dirt, it would be a perfect addition to the thread "This Chicken is Not Dead," though! Keep sneaking up on her and keep that camera snapping!
i’ll keep sneaking around! it’s very hard though, her little friend (the little brown bantam peeking her head out in the photos) is a very attentive chicken and alerts her big friend since she can’t see well with her hairdo
