EEE, OK, the pulling the membrane back was probably not the best choice. since he hadn't finish absorbing his veins. Even though you didn't see blood, he still had all that gooey stuff in there. taken a qtip and cleaning out that crap would have been a better option.. When they are sticky like that don't look at it like OMG, I have to get him out, More like OMG, I have to get that crap out. Never try to take the baby out. DON"T get me wrong, I'm not trying to blame you in ANY WAY, this is all a learning process. and he was in the worst possible spot from the beginning.Ya. I don't know if I did the right thing, but here's what I did: I just kept pulling back at his membrane, gently, making sure there was no blood. He was breathing but I just couldn't get him to even nudge, much less get his beak out. I had a foot completely out and could see his side. I put him back in the bator to wait for round 3 and that's when he stopped breathing.![]()
I still have 9 eggs with different hatch dates in the bator. One is supposed to hatch in 3 days but he looks small and there is alot of yellow still, so I'm not too hopeful on that one.
After that one, the next should hatch in about 2 weeks. Because I must have a humidity problem, if I correct it by lowering it alot now, is there still a chance to save my really young eggs? Or is it inevitable they will be sticky?
Everyone seems to suggest different humidity levels to me. What are YOUR recommendations for humidity during incubation and lockdown? I'd really appreciate it!
I bet there was tons, and that's not the worst part, the worst part was at the smaller end of the shell. that's where the HUGE blob is, well you did good at trying, but again it wasn't your fault he was just in a bad position.Ok ya after I opened the membrane more I was sticking q tip after a tip in there to get the gooey stuff out. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to, but when u said he would be breathing it in I figured that meant I needed to get it out. I should have got more out because there was alot but I didn't want to keep him out too long. I think, like you said, he was just really bad. It was just horrible to see him completely developed but not breathing.
Yes I only have the one bator. I have the humidity around 30 now because I didn't know with so many conflicting things online. I think I should take my dish of water out. Keep around 20. I'm in AZ so keep the humidity low shouldn't be difficult, lol.
My next one should hatch in 3 days, but I'm not sure anything can help him. He is alive, but he isn't filling the egg like he should be. I'll attempt something if you want to try, but I'm really not hopeful for that one to be honest![]()
