White feathers on Buff Orpington roo?

Thanks. Now if only he'd start acting like a roo and not run like a banshee and fly into my arms when my 6 month old EEs come up to him..LOL I'm not showing mine either, I'm just curious why there's black in the tail.

JayDe, the black 'dusting' on the tip of the tail does occur sometimes as well. Both black or white are considered defects for buff plumage. For those who want to breed or show them, will typically cull these from their flock. For pets, there is nothing wrong with them and it is not an indication of cross breed. It just shows the challenge of producing a pure buff colored bird. This is quite common in all buff breeds.

He is 4mos!!! wow, big difference in 5mo old!!! Mine are huge!!! Im wondering if there fat, and over weight?....lol....Maybe I should name him CHUNKY MONKEY, both my buffs have no names yet, I wait til color comes out and I see personality.

I also noticed a white patch on my roo's tail feather. He has never had one before. I don't know if it has anything to do with genetics. I don't understand how a 1yr+ roo could some how just magically get a white patch in his tail feather.

It is always a good idee to keep n few hens with light peppering in your breeding pen to keep your color strong breed them to a perfectly buff roo!the white in the feathers are caused by culling all the hens that have peppering and a bit of blue under color around the head,we had the same problem a few years ago but since we keep a few peppered hens our color has drastically improved to a rich buff perfect for showing!
