I noticed today that one of my hens is breathing out her mouth and has a clear white fluid coming out of it. She also shook her head and tons came out. She also has gone bald underneath and below her vent which has also gone very red and by the looks of it swollen ( it has been like this for over half a year). We have also been getting a few squishy eggs lately, but I'm not sure if that's her or not because my other 2 x-battery hens have also stopped laying and I'm not sure why? The flock has lice which I've been trying to treat for a long time, but they just wont go however much powders and sprays I put on! I am thinking of worming them now because I've not done it in a while and it may be a cause in the lack of eggs we have been receiving? Any idea what's wrong with her?

Just been looking round and think that it could maybe be sour crop? I smelt her breath and it doesn't smell too good, so I will check in the morning to see for sure. Anything else it could be?

Seems as if you may be having a variety of reasons..

To get rid of lice/mites have you tried sevin dust or permethryn? You will need to use the powder on the chickens...paying special attention to under wings and the vent area, change all bedding, nesting boxes and dust the coop with the powder...repeat again in 7-10 days.

For sour crop/impacted crop....there is a "sticky" at the header of Emergencies/Diseases etc.....scroll down to Medical Treatments and click on the link...there is great information there for crop issues.

Please do de-worm them as a parasitic overload can kill....try Flubenvet...it is available in the UK...after initial treatment yopu will need to re-treat in 14 days..eggs will have to be dispensed of for 28 days i.e. after each 14 day treatment.

To treat my chickens for lice I clean out all the bedding and straw and burned it... Then I put 7dust everywhere in their pen . Then I put wood ash mixed with dirt in a corner of their pen and let them dust in it... Then to keep worms out of their systems I put vinegar in their water. I had my best rooster die of something like your chicken is doing... I hope this helps you with your problem

Sounds like you have some issues to deal with. Only other thing I can think of, is it possible your chickens are molting? I have a few already molting here. They do stop laying when they are molting. You just have to wait until they are done. It's a good time to worm or medicate when they stop laying. Btw, I don't know if its available there, but I have used Frontline spray to get rid of lice on chickens. It's for dogs and cats for flea treatment, so it's not labeled for chickens, but just a drop of that under the vent and under each wing kills them bugs fast and it seems to last for months.
