I had a towel for after I grabbed her.

I have to find a better way to get to her as this tree has lots of branches and it isn't easy getting into
a secure position and get at her.

Thanks....excellent idea.

I have two coops within the chicken yard. One large and one small.

The smallish one is where I put new arrivals and baby chicks.

It is large enough for the chickens to move around but small enough to grab them if I need to.

This is where I attempted to keep Skinny Butt last night when she jumped away. Fast little bugger.

However, getting them into the big coop makes sense of course. I should have thought of that.

I'm giving her a few days to recover. I saw a little blood on one of her wings which breaks my heart.

She seems OK so far. I'll know more as evening comes to see if she can get back into the tree. However,

even if she needs to heal a bit she has plenty of places to nestle in.

BTW--her leg looks better today. I'm sure it's from the oil in that it is no longer white. But from everything I have read it takes quite a while to
kill off the mites and the new eggs.

Onward.

Skittish chickens are easier to catch at night if you blind them with a flashlight. Then switch it off when you are in position to grab them. Grab quickly and firmly and hold on tight. Good luck......Pop

FYI-Skinny Butt is back in the tree tonight, so this is very good news to me. It means I didn't cause her such damage that she can't fly. I was really worried as she got caught in
branches when she got away from me and when I did finally grab her there was blood on one wing.

Then when I finally put her down in the small coop she just lay there. I thought I killed her unintentionally.

Whew.....

I'll wait a few days and take a different approach to capture her with less trauma and coat her legs with vasoline.
