Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and duck hatching. I started with a homemade incubator and in the last couple days I realized that with the homemade incubator I was not able to obtain the high humidity required in the last bit before hatching (of course I didn't realize this until day 24) so I bought the mini advance incubator from brinsea and put them in that (day 26 not including the day I set them). So I'm now on day 27 and I do see a little movement in three of the five eggs but no peeping or pipping that I can distinguish. Certainly not rocking and moving a lot like I've been reading about. The other two I can't seem to see any movement at all but don't smell...do you guys think by not having the humidity on day 25 I've lost them? Should I be worried? Should I help them or just let them be?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You might also want to post on the Hatching Eggs forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs but usually high humidity is not critically important until you have an egg pipping, so just because it wasn't at normal lock down humidity at day 25 shouldn't affect the hatch. If your humidity was too low the whole time / the air cells are too big, that could be a problem.

Welcome to BYC!

X2 Humidity is most important when the chicks start to pip. When they poke that hole thru the shell, it loses a lot of moisture and can stick to the inside of the shell if they get too dried out. So this is when you really need high moisture in the bator. Before that, the humidity can be lower and as long as you never ran them out of humidity, and the air cell is not too large, they should be fine.

Definitely follow the link that Kelsie has provided on incubation. Good luck and keep us posted!!

Glad you joined us! X3 the above. I once got caught out by duck eggs pipping one day after I locked them down and they all hatched without issues. Best of luck!

So you'll I not be worried that none have internally pipped at all? How would I know if the air sac was too big? I had the humidity in the vacinity of 35 the whole time and it looked like the pics I had seen online so idk there's so much contradicting info!
