Common sense to never ever buy anything from someone selling out of a van in front of a random establishment. Even more so if they don't speak the national language.

she was not selling them from her van. She was just there to wash clothes. I kept hearing crowing and at first thought I was just crazy from spending time looking up roosters ( I wanted one real badly but wasn’t sure yet how to get one without ordering 25) when she came out I asked her about them and she didn’t know what i was saying so we showed her a wallet and pointed and she said 8 and we gave her 8 and grabbed one and tossed it into our van. This was 6 months ago. I didn’t know yet about separating before introducing but do understand now about the necessity of it, I’ve learned so much from reading on here.

NW Iowa. This was the first time I’ve encountered a van full of chickens.

The phrase "a van full of chickens" for some reason just makes me smile. It also makes me SO curious as to that back story.... I can't think of many scenarios that would cause me pack up my roosters for a trip to the laundromat

I have just assumed she was going to or from the auction house and wanted to do the laundry while she was in town to save gas. They auction off chickens and other livestock on Saturdays.
