I got 6 chicks from Tractor Supply and I can't remember what the breed was of the white ones. I know the others are Cinnamon Queens, but the white ones i'm not sure of.
They are very tame and friendly! If I walk by their pool brooder, they fly up to my head and shoulders!

Any thoughts? They are now starting to get little black feathers scattered on their backs and they legs are turning greyish...

Even if they don't remember off the top of their head. They have a record of what they purchased and what hatchery they came from. All the feed stores have to select specific breeds when they call the hatchery. There is a record of it somewhere.

9/10 they dont have a clue what they are selling.
Ha. I agree.
They can't get it right a lot of times when the chicks are in front of them I don't think a phone call after the fact will get you very far.
Ours do not order specific breeds. They get hatcheries choice and don't know enough to differentiate the breeds from a list of sent breeds.
I think the OP was smart for asking here. NO PLACE knows chickens like BYC.
There's only a couple hybrids that are white with black specks. Austra being the most popular.

Someone knows what they are sent.
The feed store closest to my house knows 3 months ahead of time what they are going to have. Corporate entities don't leave it up to a hatchery to pick what they will be getting. If they did, they would get all males.

Lol of course if the hatchery did that they would lose the business of our local store.

My local Farm and Fleet orders specific breeds and numbers(sometimes the hatchery sends extras or substitutions if something didn't hatch the way they expected) and a person can reject the substitutions people can also make orders of the breeds available. This specific store does an amazing job and their chicks are all sorted by breed or order. Chicks that aren't sold are in a different aisle and in separate stock tanks. People are allowed to walk through but not handle the unsold chicks the aisle with sold brooders of chicks are blocked off and only employees and friends of employees are allowed to walk through and glance at the birds ordered.

Our tractor supply places the brooders in a dog kennel in the middle of the store that only employees can access. I know many people have had other than good experiences with their tractor supply ours is usually very good. There are a few really knowledgeable people there and they generally do a great job of caring for the chicks and keeping the breeds separate and marked.

I have spoken to the store manager who told me in person that they have no idea what the hatchery sends until the boxes are opened. Usually the hatchery sends mostly sexed pullets and a few straight run breeds but they get a lot of sex linked pullets.
