Since our chicks are white leghorns, I was not expecting much in the way of bonding. Everything I've read is how flighty & scared they are. "Not cuddly," was said a lot. So I'm absolutely astounded at how sweet these chicks are! They perch on my daughters' arms, hang out in their laps, lie down & sleep in our hands. Catching them is still a flapping good time, but once they're in our hands, they're so chill. It's just awesome. I'm so happy with them!

Everything you've read is lies. White Leghorns are the most friendly, intelligent, and curious breed I've ever had, I just can't say enough about them (my chicken friend told me I'm obsessed with my Leghorns). I have six, and they are wonderful, not to mention, but also fantastic layers! Mine follow me around whenever I move, come when I call, and jump on my lap when I sit down. They don't really like to be "held", but mine are very satisfied with having their backs stroked. Everything I've read says similar things. Good luck, Leghorns are one of my top favorite breeds.

They really are amazing. My daughters spend a lot of time on the bathroom with them where the chicks are living right now. They're all bonding so well.

Leghorns, along with the other Mediterranean breeds (white egg layers) have a reputation for being flighty. (i.e. "catching them is a flapping good time") Your experience points to the fact that a lot can be overcome with good handling.

Agreed. I've read similar with Blue Andalusians and Minorcas.

I have a rir, 2 buff Orpingtons and 2 leghorns . Out of the 5 my 2 leghorns are by far the most friendly, which I find odd as I thought the Orpingtons would be the most friendly. None of them like being picked up but my leghorns are the fastest to settle and snuggle up. First time chicken mom and they are only 3 weeks but that's how our brooder is looking the past few days!

one of my white leghorns has attached itself to my 4 year old grand daughter and will follow her around when she's out there. Not just because of treats either, because the first day we noticed it she hadn't given out any treats yet

I've been a fan of white Leghorns ever since I brought home my first 2 girls. When I got them, they were strictly for eggs. They quickly fell in love with my daughter and she with them. They'd come and lay in our laps if we sat in the grass and didn't mind being held. We lost one of them to a prolapse and had to rehome the other due to moving. I have a brooder full of them right now, and they're all little loves :love

I have 1 LH in my bunch. Tonight she did the cutest thing. I lifted the lid off the brooder and she loves to fly so right away she was flapping about. I put my fingers to her breast and she stepped onto my fingers. I tried to lower he into the brooder, but she was pretty contented on perching on my fingers! Finally I got her to go onto the side of the brooder while I replaced all their feed. When she saw it was time to eat she fluttered back into the box. It was really cute and one of the most pet-like experiences I have had with my chickens yet (3-4 weeks olds).
So I agree that they are a friendly breed!

These stories are so wonderful to hear! I cleaned out the bathtub/brooder tonight, so they were just hanging out in the bathroom with me while I did. A couple of them were really intrigued with the process.
