White Leghorns

Is the illinois winters ok for the white leghorns? I know the red and black sexlinks will be fine but what about them do i have to add heat to the coop?

They don't tolerate cold as well because of their huge floppy combs.

Unless it's well below freezing, they should be OK

And if you want you could consider dubbing the combs to prevent frostbite.

I don't know if you are aware, but leghorns usually do not lay during the winter without supplemental light. At least that's been my experience. I know the question was about the cold, but I thought I'd throw that tidbit in there.

dubbing is cutting it off

persoanlly i would persiver with vasaline and never dub them

i have 5 of them and combs already flopping at 20 weeks
