One of my Rhode Island Reds just layed her first egg in 2 weeks and the egg which looks and feels normal had this milky white, fluid filled membrane stuck to it. No blood or yoke colored fluid. It just pulled right off. Anyone know what this is? Should I be concerned? Anyone had this happen before? All help/insight is greatly appreciated.

It's a shell membrane with Albumin (whites) inside.

I'd see how she does with her next egg. You may need to make sure she has supplemental oyster shell or calcium.
Thanks for the insight. Glad someone has seen this before. I mix Oyster shells with their food. Would you discard the egg even though it seems to be a normal egg? Thanks again!

I would offer the oyster shell free choice instead of mixing it with the feed.

As for the egg, it's just got a membrane of another shell attached to it. I don't know if I'd throw it out or not, a lot depends on how many eggs I have on hand.
If the normal hard shelled egg is intact and has been gathered in a timely manner, then it's probably o.k. to consumed if cooked correctly.
