White peachicks and Splits

Hi guys, finally hatched some peachicks, 1 white and 2 splits...... Just wondering, are whites as touchy to raise as I have heard? And also are splits all supposed to have some white in the flight feathers? As one split has no white, and the other only on one side.

Whites are as easy to raise as any other of the Indian peafowl colours. As far as I know, every split that I have had, has had at least a couple white flights.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah thats what I thought, maybe the wing feathers need to grow in more for it to show, time will tell

I agree whites easy as blues. if there are problems, it may be due to inbreeding in that 'line'. Saying that as I have come across people who have the idea of "purity" as being something from generations of one color only breeding- had a few callers inquire if the whites came from that sort of breeding and lost interest even when explained that any white bred to any white will result in all white offspring. Anyways that sort of breeding may result in inbred birds if the whites all happened to be varying degrees of related to each other, so the problem could have been inbred birds instead of being directly related to being white. So if you do see problems, try outcrossing to another color.. although you have splits, so someone has been doing that already.

This chick has the white flights, but only this side....

And this one has no white at all.... Dad is white, the only peacock I own....

Just thought I would mention, the foster hen is a frizzle polish (not pure single comb) and had a massive crest, I "trimmed it" so thats why you can see some skin
