White Peacocks

I am getting a pair of white peacocks in a couple weeks, is there anything different about them that i should know about for taking care of them? They will be penned, there's no way I'm letting such beautiful animals run free where something could get them! (this is not private property, LOTS of people driving through constantly, and dogs...)

Soooo excited! I found a guy who breeds rare birds and he has 3 breeding pairs of white peacocks, but no normal indian blues. so we're trading. 2 pairs of indian blues for one pair of whites.

i love finding people who arn't in it for the money, just for the animals and making other people happy.

Heya,

You can raise them as any other india blue would be raised. The only difference is they get dirty if there is mud and if you have predators around they'll go after the your white birds first. Otherwise they are really amazing, especially when they display. Good Luck Andy

We raise ours all the same. I have noticed our whites are more flighty than the India Blues but we didn't raise them from chicks we got them as adults.

Whites are soo pretty! The only thing sorta different is it can be harder to tell when they are young which ones are male and which ones are female compared to india blues, but I think that is about it, and white peafowl tend to have pretty blue eyes!

yep, no difference. Might have some people tell you they are more fragile or more prone to ???? but untrue. If a white seems weak, it could due to be inbreeding.. for some reason some people insist only on whites from a "long line of white breeding".. whites were, less common and much harder to find so they probably experienced some level of inbreeding in the past, which can weaken almost anything irregardless of color. Whites from mixed stock should be as strong and healthy as anything else.

I've seen some swear white chicks are harder to raise, but again absolutely not in my experience(I crossed my whites with lots of colors and patterns so mine have a wide genetic diversity). They go in same brooders and same food as blues and grow up the same...
