Got a shipment of White Rocks peeps - hatchery must have sent a lot more than ordered, for temperature, due to the cold spell in New England?? Heard that they add males for warmth?? The added number seems to correspond to a pronounced red stain where their combs will be? Does that signify that they are males or do I need to still wait and see?
Thanks

Hi mainely-chick, welcome to the site!

I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe one just has to wait and see unless they know how to sex a chick.

Wow I never would thought of that? I looks natural but I will check with Hatchery? Thanks

I have a confirmation from McMurray - for those ordering?
They do mark the extra chicks that they add for warmth
and they are ALL MALES !!

Oh well please do let us know how big they end up getting, because I am needing to add some fresh new blood to my group of White Rocks - not yet sure where I will be getting them from.

pueawjapygrta - got 14 extra males on an order of 30 females- excluding rare breed add on.

I had got my chicks last Monday and the males were marked with a green mark, when my wife asked me why they were marked with the green I told her it was for St Patties Day:D
She bought that too:lol:
