White silkie chick with comb male or hen or rooster

White Silkie Chick already has a comb so does it mean its a cockerel?

Not necessarily. Hens have combs too. How old? Silkies are very difficult to sex at a young age.

I did read about silkies being hard to sex. I also read that they don't get their comb till they are much older than this chick. The chick is almost 6 weeks old. I guess it doesn't really matter since it's a pet. Just thought it strange it had a comb already. First time with a silkie. They are very diffetent chickens. Have had other breeds which do develop combs early.

That appears to be a single comb. That being the case, it should be easier to sex. So far, I'm not seeing anything that says cockerel, no wattles, smallish single comb... update in a few weeks.

Did notice the single comb. Chick is suppose to be purebred but read it could be recessive gene. I will post more photos in a few weeks.

Too young to sex still but it looks more like a pullet than not.

Local breeder. I did notice on one foot her fifth toe is not right. She must carry bad genes. Not going to breed her.

I wouldn't... and honestly, I wouldn't breed anything from that breeder if they're selling birds advertised as SOP.

Still not sure of sex but I think its a pullet. I just have a feeling by the way she carries herself. Very friendly and docile. Time will tell. He or She will make a wonderful pet!
