I have a pair of white silkies and just started hatching them. The two chicks that have hatched so far are a grayish blue color. Do white chicks look like that or is there some sort of recessive gene in the works?

They will feather in a beautiful white. There are some lines that carry what some call a silver gene or a smokey gene. Here is some of my white chicks hatched a darker blue sometimes dirty buff color.

These chicks where almost a lavender color till about 6-8 months old. They are now solid white.

I think you have the best possible white chicks.
I was very pleased to see that my white chicks where yellowisch gray.
It is a silver based white.
It in my opinion makes better beautylfull white's.
You don't have interfirence of the red gene, witch can couse yellowing of white featers.
Good luck with the little one's
