Hi guys, new chicken mum and poster here. This morning when I woke my girls up I noticed one was lagging behind. She got up and went straight to water. I kept watching and noticed she had a white thing coming out of her butt (picture below) She went back into the coop to a nesting box and I called the vet. Took her to the vet and they pulled the thing out and gave it to me in the bag (picture below) They didn’t know what was wrong, they’re not poultry vets. They gave her antibiotics said she has a fever. Now her poos look like this (picture below)

What is this? It’s frustrating that I took my girl to the vet and they don’t know. I feel like you guys will more. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. I want just to be the best chicken mum I can for my girls.

I am a beginner but I think what you have is called a lash egg. It can be a signal that she has an infection in her abdomen — really in the ovaries or fallopian tube. If this is the case then antibiotics are the right call.

I don’t know anything about the poo.

It’s best to separate her from the rest of the flock. Many of us use dog crates. We put food and water in with them and put the cage in a quiet place.

You did the right thing in taking your hen to the vet.

Thank you, she isn’t isolated currently because I felt mean. Is this contagious?

Here’s a picture of her poo this morning
