Hi,
I ordered all female chicks from Murray McMurray (welsummers, cream legbars, French black copper marans, and whiting true green).

They are 5.5 weeks old now. When they were chicks I was assuming this was the whiting true green… but now I understand this is likely not what I thought, and likely not female.

Any clue what it is?

Hello,

I can share a bit from my own flock. I have about 30 Whiting True Blues that are around four months old. Many of them have that Mediterranean build, the kind I think of as a “leghorn” body, or sometimes closer to an Ameraucana type. About a quarter of mine do not fit that at all. One looks like a Blue Jersey Giant chick, another has the shape of a crow, and one is as white as a dove and looks like a larger version of one. The body types and colors are all over the place.

I am no expert, but the bird in your photo looks male to me. All of mine have pea combs, and since I do not keep the True Greens I can only compare them to my Blues. The short answer is that it could be a True Green. I am sure I have a Whiting True Blue in my flock that is very close to it in both color and type.

I really like these birds, although I have 17 that will nearly kill themselves trying not to be caught. They are as close to wild as my chickens can get.
