wow that is terrible. So crested is not a breed but deformed. Good information to know. This site is a wealth of knowledge. Thanks. Anything else I should know?

Besides avoiding breeding you will just want to monitor any signs of neurological issues.

Thanks for the info. Makes me mad that people would breed for a genetic defect. These little guys will have a great life.

It sounds they are going to have a wonderful life with you! Hopefully they will avoid the issues caused by the gene. I think if more people knew it's effects the gene would hopefully slowly die out. Maybe one day hatcheries will stop breeding such a terrible gene just for a quick buck.

One more question...little guy that I wanted to know what he was has what I call a cow lick of fuzz. Would you call that crested? I have not felt his head to see if it is shaped funny. I should check.

It could be. There is a huge variety when it comes to the size of a crest. If it is then it will become more apparent as he ages.
