Who ate black-eyed peas today for luck?

Brooster - I LOVE cabbage! But we're Irish, corned beef and cabbage every March. *ha*

For everyone who doesn't like black-eyed peas, my mom cooked them in a rotel kind of sauce this year. Doesn't taste a thing like black-eyed peas, I ate alot!

I never heard about eating black eyed peas on New Year's Day until yesterday when someone mentioned it on another board I belong to. I didn't realize it was a southern tradition until I read today's paper.
My family? We always eat pork and saurkraut on New Year's day. I am finally learning to like it.

Blackeyed peas are simmering now. I am also making cole slaw and corn pudding, broccoli casserole and cornbread. I usually do a pork roast, but the prime rib was on sale and the pork roasts don't go on sale til tomorrow.

I discussed it with my NC native grandmother and she gave me special dispensation to have the prime rib instead of pork roast just this once...as long as we served blackeyed peas. She told me to be better prepared next time LOL

Pork and saurkraut here for a prosperous new year! Makes the house smell sooo good today:).......and tomorrow:|.........and the next day:(............and the day after that:eek:..........
