who does the cooing .. purring

It is the rooster, they can make a large variety of sounds that the hens can't.

My chickens purr...trill....and I do not have any roosters so hens can too. I just love the sound.

We had a single chick for two weeks (she was the only one that hatched out of a clutch), and every time I pick her up she makes that trilling sound. It's quite musical, and makes me feel happy whenever I hear it.

I've wanted chickens all my life, but honestly, I had no idea how enjoyable it was going to be. We have other kinds of birds, but chickens are fascinating. They have so much personality!
