Who else collects the feathers?

When I clipped my chickens, ducks and turkey's wings, I posted FREE feathers on Craigslist and someone replied. I gave them all to her. I half filled up a 55 gallon drum.

Pic below.

I LOVE feathers. I collect all the good ones I see in my coop.

Wash them, dry them. Wash them, dry them. Fluff them in the dryer.

Don't know what to do with them after that.

I do that too. If I find one with a little mud or something on it I wash it off and keep it. I love my white chicken feathers and the colorful game feathers. The sickle feathers are soo pretty, I can't resist them.

Any pics of a finished product?

I'd like to see a pic of that too! sounds like a great project!!!

I have vases of feathers, too. Can't resist a pretty feather! also have some I've found when out walking w/the dogs -- guess they're feral birds of some sort, but were too pretty to leave on the ground.

Can't wait until my peacocks start having "real" feathers - and losing them, lol!!

Do you fish or know anyone that does? Hackle feathers and patterned feathers are supposed to be great for fly tying. What about making fascinators and head bands? Those are easy and popular right now. If nothing else, they're great for kids to use in art projects.

Yes, dad fly fishes, but I don't process birds/own any roos. The only feathers I find are topical feathers, flight/tail feathers, and sometimes down

I thought about making christmas tree toppers, earrings, belts, hat ornaments, and picture frames with them. Just never have... maybe I'll do that soon.

I used to keep them, until I had a giant plastic garbage bag full of feathers sitting in the living room of my TINY little house and my MIL asked if I had any feathers she could have for a project....hee hee hee. YEP! I don't keep them anymore. Though I do have a 2 foot long blue macaw tail feather in a vase on my computer desk..blue on one side, yellow on the other.

chickensioux - whenever I read your posts, it's always Johnny's voice I hear in my head reading your words!

I've been collecting feathers lately, I actually have some really beautiful ones from my Ameraucauna. One of them is a chick feather too.
