Oh my gosh, the biggest raccoon I've ever seen was in my yard a lime 2 weeks ago, by my chicken coop. There’s a motion sensor light that shines right through to my bedroom because I have a sliding glass door there. Attached to my room is a small screened in porchand there’s about a foot of aluminum siding from the ground up and then it’s screening. A noise made me kinda anxious and i thogut some cat was back. I looked and saw a huge raccoon peeking in there. I keep my silkie polish mix bob m there and I was just wondering if raccoons have ever broken through anyones screens. Thanks and any way to keep him away? I have the chicken food in nemof those rat proof containers, and there’s no Food open or any mess. That’s him lol

My aunt and uncle used to keep a raccoon as a pet, and while I don't know if they can get through screening, I would suspect it's possible. Snoopy, as she was called, was brilliant at opening all kinds of doors and latches. Her best trick was opening kitchen cabinet doors and ripping the labels off all the canned goods.

Can you call the DNR or some other agency about trapping and relocating your visitor? When I lived in town, that's what my neighbors did when raccoons got into their UNSECURED trash can. Unfortunately for them, someone (and I'm not saying it was me) released the mother and baby raccoons who ran off into the wooded area behind our houses.

And as already mentioned, your baby is ADORABLE. Good luck keeping your beauty safe.

He loves to photobomb!

I think the general rule of thumb is that if a four year old (with claws and sharp teeth) could get into it, then a raccoon probably could to.

Raccoons are so intelligent! And they have highly sensitive and dexterous hands. If you’re in an area with other sources of food, they’re not going to be super motivated to spend a lot of time breaking into your porch, though. Examine the screening with that in mind and you can make any necessary adjustments to your bird’s enclosure.

I will and thanks. Animal control knows my neighbors coz their dogs are a little “out of hand”. I’ll give them a call about it because my neighbors way down the street have had a lot of their chickens taken by raccoons. And yea She’s great, my baby chicks love her and she’s super nice to them. I’m getting her parents from my family friend that gave bob ross to us this Saturday. I‘ll put pics up as soon as I do lol!
