Who else doesn't take payment via PAYPAL?

I own a business and used to take payment via paypal. That was until a customer paid a deposit and then a week later it came back OUT of the Paypal account. No dispute, nothing, just dissapeared and put me in the negative.

She later tried to pay again with paypal saying everything was cleared up. She put the money in that morning and tried to rush me to give her the order. By noon Paypal had taken the money back out of my account again. If need be I still use Paypal to pay for things but don't trust it to take money. (It took about 3 months for the client to actually give me the money and I had to drive to her home to pick it up!)

Because of this I went and got an app for my Iphone that takes credit cards. It's a little easier for me to use on location then to wait for people to get to a computer, etc. (If you want the info for my company, let me know.) BTW, it works great at swaps or flea markets for selling your goods and people are out of cash!

I don't feel that it is unreasonable NOT to accept paypal, how about you? I'm offering another way to pay with CC.

I don't use Paypal, nor do I plan to---I don't bank online or have any acct information online anywhere. I get money orders from folks I'm not that familiar with and personal checks from folks I trust (done business with before, usually). Money in hand before the order ships most of the time.

I've never had Paypal take money back out after someone pays it. Sometimes they will hold it, but that's it. How strange. I wish I didn't need to use it because the fees are so high when you get a good sized deposit/payment, but it's been a life-saver for me lately.

Happy, I have used them for YEARS and never had an issue. But this transaction had me fighting with the client to get aprx. $400! She suddenly got sick and decided that she really didn't want to pay for the service already provided. It was a HUGE hassle!

The CC transaction fees are less then the paypal for business. But both you have to pay a monthly fee. I at least like that the CC thing allows me to do it ANYWHERE.

Yep....

If someone wants to pay by Paypal now, they have to pay the service fees. I won't pay it anymore.

I love Paypal! It makes transactions so easy, and so many people can easily use it. I run a mini home business, and I think I would be causing a hardship for my customers and myself if I refused to accept it.

We had too much money lost through PayPal and now I'm still nervous even using it. I'm not too PayPal-literate, so I'm just doing the basic. I receive payment first before shipping out (just like anything else).

I do prefer Postal Money Orders (since some checks DO bounce) but it takes days at a time to get it and send it out and if it's time sensitive like eggs, you gotta figure a way around it or purchase for a later date to be shipped out then when payment is received.

I HATE the fees and though I would prefer the person the pay it, I don't want to scare everyone away, because I'm too "cheap" to pay it. But really, it does add up in the end! I don't want to be a hassle for my customers

fancbrd4me02 - what kind of home business do you do? I'm looking to do something from home to, but not sure what! Need moolah! LOL

I make a little money on the side reselling things on ebay. I sell vintage toys, games, and anything else I can pick up at yard and estate sales. I keep very detailed records of my expenses so that I don't loose money by forgetting to deduct my expenses from the total. I usually only make $100 - 400 per month, but it helps. I never really incur Paypal fees, so I'm not sure what fees you all are having trouble with...Do you have personal account or small business? The fees I hate are my ebay fees.

I love paypal.. but I also use e-mail money transfers and interac on line

interac is a canadain thing

but basically its debit.. or paying with a bank card NOT a credit card I think in the US its called a checking card or something like that

I want you to know a similar thing happened about a year ago to me... what it was is the woman is trying to pay with an old bank account that is no good and was ONCE attached to a real account that paypal verified. They order things from ebay and pay right away and it can take 24-48 hours to show the transaction didn't work and the money disappears. What happened in my instance is I don't ship things THAT fast while MANY other people did ship items out right away and she got free items and these people didn't get paid. Its a scam... hence the people rushing you to send it same day as they send a payment that will end up bad.

I do like paypal, you just need to adhere to the policies such as not shipping until echecks clear, or wait at least 24-48 hours after any payment to ship. Once a transaction shows it is verified and paypal guarentees it, then I ship!

I also DO NOT use ebay, because then paypal holds funds. I use etsy and my own site and everything has always run smoothly. I also take advantage of their Debit Mastercard deal, I get no interest, only spend money IN my account, swipe it as credit and I get 1.5% cash back every month on every transaction. Last year I got $179 cash back over the year for the money I earned spending it on things I had to spend it on, like groceries. It it wasn't actually credit, it was my money I was going to spend anyways. If you do debit you can get cash back ANYWHERE from your account free right away.

Long as I don't use them with ebay they work great for my business.
