Who else is eagerly awaiting spring chicks?

IDK...I can only say what I was told. The only other info that I can add is that this fellow gave me the impression that this shortage would be much more significant and long-lasting than the usual Spring rush for chicks.

I do know they are trying to rebuild laying flocks that were killed off because of the flu, I can't see how that would impact my buff Orpington, or barred rocks, unless they are taking up incubator space, I'm not interested in sex links or leghorn.

You're doing better than I did, then, because I just couldn't wait! I just kept making calls until I found someone who had chicks available now. Then again, I was always the kid that spent the lead-up to Christmas shaking my gifts to see if I could guess what was in them. LOL.

I had planned to buy a few chicks in the spring, but the more I read about ducks the more tempted I am to try them. I'll still have my flock of 10 chickens but those darn duck breed focus threads are getting to me, lol.

I know, those breed focuses are so tempting!

Especially the *gasp* Silver Appleyards. I raise Muscovy ducks but I've always wanted to get an egg laying duck breed to try. You could always get both ducklings and chicks.....

I'm really wanting some Naked Necks and Millifleur D'Uccles. @mymilliefleur Have you ever crossed these 2 breeds?

I have not, I've had the d'Uccles for many years now, but I just got the Naked Necks last summer. That would be an interesting cross though. My NN's are Standard size, so I think my rooster will be to big for my d'Uccle hens. One cross I'm really wanting to try is Naked Neck X EE. Spring can't come soon enough.

That sounds interesting too! Ditto about Spring!

Aaanndd....I was going to wait for spring to buy more chicks, but I was at the Grange today and they got their last order of the year, and I'm going to be running the brooder anyway for my incubator babies.....I came home with 5 Easter eggers and 5 barred Rocks. I wanted 5 sex links but they were sold out
