Who else is setting... I wanna see pics!

I just caded mine. Out of 27 i have, 15 that I know are fertile. 3/4 of the way down the egg is black (where as before on day 5 it was only half) and i could definately see the bottom quarter of the egg tha was see-through
had viens in it!!!
5- i'm not 100% sure of bieg fertile. the same 3/4 was dark, but the bottom was clear. there were no visible viens.
5- were only half black and the bottom half had no visible viens.
2- were totally clear
So, not to count my chickens before they hatch or anything, but half is not bad out of almost 30 eggs. and if any of the others hatch it's only gain!

I wanted to start another hatch, but on Oct 3rd I go to kansas to see my son before he leaves for Iraq again....means I will be leaving babies behind...but someone here to watch them. I just dont want to leave a bator ready to pop and me not be here.

They went in on the 18th of August which makes today day 14. I was planning on putting them in the hatcher today. I'm just making sure that I have the humidity okay as we 'speak'.

This could be my first hatch

I'm super nervous and excited. Aren't we all? I sure I'll always be, first hatch or not!

If they're silkies, they won't be ready to go to the hatcher 'till day 18.
My chicken eggs usually hatch on day 20... silkies included.
I'm putting my button quail in the hatcher today, but they can hatch in 14 days. Normal hatch for chickens is 19-21... even silkies.
You only have one week to go!
As long as they don't smell, there's no harm in leaving them in - even if you're not sure what you see when candling.
Good Luck!

Yeah, only my coturnix quail go to the hatcher today. The next wave to hit the hatcher go on in Friday and they are Maransacaunas. I got so many free eggs at different times that I've had to stagger their entry into the incubator and therefor they have staggered hatch dates. It's a bit tricky and boy do I ever have a chart of dates, egg #s, and breeds!! It does make for a fun last week of summer though. My kids don't start school until the 15th.

The public school kids around here have been in school for weeks now.

I had a surprise this morning...I opened the incubator today to roll eggs and there was a coturnix chick jumping everywhere. My first egg out of my own birds and it hatched!!!!

I was gone most of the day and came home to two early birds, so now there are 3 coturnix chicks in a separated area in the brooder. Tomorrow I will add wire to make a decent size area for them and the others that are due.

I sure am not as god as you are with keeping tack of who is due when!!!

I candled again tonight.

2/4 cuckoo maran X BCM developing for sure
6/6 of Stubby's eggs developing
2/3 Sunny's are developing. The third one was definately clear so I pulled it out.

I left the other two cuckoo eggs in there since they are a darker brown and I can't tell 100% if anything is growing in them at this point.

So we are sitting at 10/13 eggs growing well.

YAY!

ETA : Apparently my brain forgot about possesive nouns vs. plural...

so check later on.

Okay here is the pic of the weird black line in the silkie egg

I moved the coturnix quail into the hatcher today and candled them 7/13 were developing and 6 were whites/yolk.

So far so good. I'm a little worried about the temps tonight since it's starting to get cold here at night. I might wrap a towel around the bator to help (is that futile?)

School starts on the 15th since the kindergarten/pre-k classes start later than the rest of the grades. But still it is really late to start!! And so the summer of chickens comes to a close.... and the autumn of chickens begins
