I have pip #2 this morning!
#1 has made a little progress. I have to take my son to his Tae Kwon Do test today (to move "up" a belt) and then I'm going to the horse auction. I probably won't be home until evening, so maybe I'll have chicks waiting for me!

I don't fret slightly dropped temps at hatch. If the bator didn't drop, the added temps from the now active chicks would bump up a bit too high for a staggered hatch, and I often stagger hatch.

LOL twelve serama eggs, seven sizzle eggs, and a bunch of lord knows what's in it eggs, four of which are due next week. The rest are day three or day one... boy staggered. All the ones in the antique bator are day 3...

Day 22....just one more since last night...rest of the hatch...nothing. That one baby will have to be put down, the sick one. On the eggs I put Ma, says she doesnt know, she could have kept bumping them and moving them wrong while in the carton...she had only 4 hatch out of hers, I had put in about 13 of mine with hers.....

I got 6 good chicks and one sick one...so 7 out of 13 I really was wishing for a better hatch rate on mine...but I didnt notice my temp had dropped to 96.1 for a few hrs...been sick myself...

Im wondering if I should crack open the eggs to see what went wrong...???

Candle first. Candle for movement and open as if you were going to help. Then shine in a penlight, if no movement then you can crack at will. But I learned early - don't open those last suckers aggressively - too often they're weak but alive.

I candled the 10 eggs in the bator last night - with a crappy flashlight. One of them looks to be a quitter recently. No movement and the veining is turning brown and "blurry".

The rest still looked good from what I could tell.
Today is lockdown for me. I have had chicks on day 20 more than once so I could have pips by Monday.

It's much the same here PBJ, mine usually hatch 19/20 days, any chick not hatched at the end of day 21 is usually in trouble. And I candle again then. Often it's an egg I already marked as irregular.
