Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Or of the 4 pullets that hatched in mid-April, I think my crested cream legbar is getting close. She is super chatty, her comb and wattles are huge all of a sudden, they are getting redder, and I can fit 2 fingers between her pelvic bones. How long do you think it'll be? She is 22 weeks old.

We got our first egg this weekend from our Cream Legbar at exactly 24 weeks, hatched the first week of April. She had been squatting for one and a half weeks, and just a couple of days before she laid, her comb got really red. She has laid an egg a day now since that first egg! So, I would say that you are super close to seeing an egg from your Cream Legbar! Where did you get your Cream Legbar from?

Oh yay! We got a surprise set of eggs from My pet chicken. Hers was labeled Easter Egger, and you can imagine my shock and elation when she was actually a CCL.

That is so lucky! Our CCL came from Meyer Hatchery, and she is the first of our hens to lay - the prettiest little blue eggs I've ever seen. Good luck on your wait! I'm sure you're close!

I've got several who have turned red. A few who are practicing the egg song and a couple who are kicking the golf balls out of the nest boxes and nesting them on the floor.

They are all coming up on 22 weeks old, so starting tomorrow they will not be allowed to free tame until late in the day.

It's getting close.

And just like that:

Good luck! My Dom has been squatting for over 2 weeks - now it's almost *obscene* she sticks her butt so high in the air. Lol! And someone has been going into one of the nesting boxes and rearranging the straw. But nada. Every morning I dash outside to check and they are all in the run, including her, quiet as mice. So I think the noise thing is promising!!! Let us know!!!

Does anybody know anything about Strombergs hatcheries? That's where we got our 10 Australorps from.... the other 4 we other from Big R in Billings....
