My older girls are 19 weeks. I heard the egg song for the first time this morning. I looked out and one of my rir's was on top of the coop singing as loud as she could. I checked and nothing...such a tease.

I didn't hear the egg song until the day after the first egg appeared. Ran out expectantly - FALSE ALARM. They know how to keep us guessing!

Finally! Yesterday, one of our EEs gave us a beautiful (albeit smallish) blue egg! I wasn't home all day, and when I went out to give them their daily treats, I found it cuddled in the middle box. Jumped for joy! Sure wish I had heard the egg song. But nobody's talking, so nobody can get the credit and lots of praise from me. They were 20 weeks on Monday, so I think that is early!

Our Speckled Sussex have nice big red combs so I was sure I would find a tan egg first. So proud of my girls. Every time I pass the egg on the kitchen counter, I smile and think "that came from one of my girls!" Don't really know what to do with it. I don't want to crack the shell, it's sooo beautiful (as you can see). I can blow out the egg, but won't see how beautiful it looks all plumped up orange yolk and thick creamy white...so for now, I just enjoy looking at it.

I feel very fortunate. My 9 RIR's are 18 weeks old and I've been getting one egg a day now for a week. I free range my flock although it scares me because they're subject to animal attacks but I really enjoy seeing them out. The 1st 2 eggs were laid in a corner of my garage but since then they've been using their nesting boxes ... and they have used 3 of the 4 boxes. I am curious about which hens are laying but I suppose I'll never know.

Of course I'm happy to get one a day but curious about when production will increase. Also, I'm still feeding them growth feed but think I'll go to laying mash when I buy another bag.

IT'S HERE!!!.....IT'S HERE!!!!....... I came home from work to find this itty bitty egg in the nesting box!!! Someone got it right on her first try!

Wow! This may be the most beautiful colored egg I've ever seen! I'd be thrilled if one of my EE laid an egg this color! Congrats!
