Our girls are spoiled rotten, I swear. We try to take them on walkabouts twice a day. They have a nice, big run and garden they get to play in the rest of the time. We spot clean the coop everyday and they all come in to chat with whichever of us is cleaning; they catch us up on the day's gossip, offer advice on our cleaning efforts and "help" by scratching in the shavings in inconvenient locations when they're not using us as human jungle gyms...

We love hanging out with them and I'm pretty sure the feeling is mutual. For instance there are days where both of us are slammed with homestead work outside; we can't spend any time with them. But since we're outside nearby they let us know they are the most neglected chickens in the whole wide world. Constantly. They actually whine! It's almost exactly like a dog whining.

Does anyone else have chickens that do this? It is the most hilariously, adorably pathetic thing I've ever seen. I've tried to tell them they're making a mountain out of a mole hill, but you know how chickens can be... in one ear and out the other...

I don't have a whiner, but one girl is particularly vocal when she thinks she's being ignored. The rest just stand next to the chatty one and look pathetic.

All of that usually guilts me into popping into the run with a handful of sunflower seeds or such.

I think they have me just about fully trained by now.

Too funny! We were just saying the same to each other yesterday :) I am reminded of the old joke "Dogs have owners, cats have staff." There's a reason our home wifi network is called "allhailourchickenoverlords." I believe that has been used as a hashtag on Instagram, too :p
