who has experience with coyotes and live traps?

ok,
so from most of the replies, sounds like the live trap is useless to us for catching coyotes...
If it did work we would kill it, sorry, i am more worried about my children than anything and my chickens also.
THe other traps were mentioned but we only own about an acre and it isnt grown up or weedy, so there isnt a safe place to put the foot type traps on our property with out concern for our kids... hmmmmmmm...
We do have a gun and keep it handy in case the coyotes get brave enough to show up in daylight again.
We hear them at night alot now not sure why, but since the trap is set up they havent shown themselves to us.
We may have to see if there is someone local who hunts them, do people do that?
We dont hunt so all of the ins and outs of this is new info to us.

Generally speaking Coyotes are shy animals that shun human contant except to raid trash cans, eat poodles and chickens. But with all critters they can put up a fierce fight when cornered. Early evening is when they start to hunt and you can see them going to den-up shortly after daybreak. On several occasions I've been close enough to them to reach out and touch them and have never had one even curl it's lip at me. They don't seem to want to work too hard to get a meal and are easily detered. I would be more worried about stray dogs then Coyotes. Furbearing season is through the winter, here in Ok. it is usually about Dec through the end of Jan. but it will vary state to state. Some states require special license but here it depends on how many traps you set as to whether or not you need a commercial lic.

yup we are infested with coyotes here in the desert southwest they are very sly and annoying i say if u dont see them dont worry bout them and when u do make them regret showing up with the business end of a nice rifle.
