Who has raised (or not) garden beds around their run? Looking for inspiration!

I planted a row of pole beans along the side of the rooster pen with chicken wire on the bottom to protect the plants. Idea was the beans would grow up and over the netting and be easy to pick as they hang down over the run. Unfortunately our "yard deer" paid a visit and ate all the young bean plants.

Still like the idea of growing plants vertically on the run fencing. Could work for snow peas, beans, cucumbers etc...

Yup I surround my bed with some chicken wire too - chickens still occassionally fly in but since I supervise them when they're out and about, I can chase them off. Even built up the back of the raised bed taller, because the chickens were able to reach enough of the young plants to essentially nip them in the bud. Now the plants get at least a foot tall before the chickens can reach anything, so they stand a chance at growing.

Yeah they can't resist a bed of fresh mulch and will happily bury every small plant in the bed. I sometimes use chicken wire around the beds and put a scrap of avian netting over the top though once the plants are no longer small they seem to leave them alone.
