who has silkies

Lol I hatch now so I can have youngsters ready for the fall shows. Silkies generally mature later than many other breeds. Sometimes it takes up to 6-8 months to even tell the sex on some of them accurately. Pullets finish out at 8-10 months and cockerels really start to bloom at 10-12 months. They also tend to go through a molt around 6-7 months of age for me so I need to miss that when considering showing too. These first chicks are the ones I go over with a fine tooth comb persay and hold back the best for myself. The ones I raise later in spring are for all those people that want silkies but don't want to raise them in the house like the rest of us crazy ones. Lol... I think you know how picky I am with my birds.

This is one of my babies just hatched:

I've only got one silkie, but she's very sweet! Her name is Minky:

Silkies are a nice breed--very docile and easy to handle, pretty peaceful in the coop, and overall just pleasant to deal with.

I'm enjoying seeing the other colors of silkie here--they're very attractive!
