I adopted A red leghorn from A friend that lives in the city. She isn't supposed to have them because of city ordnance and this one was to loud. I brought it home and and thought I would try this and see how it goes. I brought her home at 10pm and put her straight in the coop right next to the Alfa hen and set my alarm for 6am when I went out in the morning she was still there. I opened the coop and went to make some coffee when I came back out they were all pecking around like nothing happened. No fighting no problem nothing. Has anyone else done this and had the same results? It was awesome she has been with them for 3 days and no problem.

Glad it worked out for you. It doesn't always. Chickens can usually tell when there's a stranger in the flock, and it doesn't always go well. At least that's been my experience the few times I tried it. The new one was still picked on for some time until it finally was accepted into the flock.

I have had a similar experience, but with two birds. They escaped from a makeshift grow-out pen and into the coop of their first night at my place. There are many variables that both for you and myself were favourable in minimising issues.

It's not something that I would advise, nor do as a matter of course, however.

Curious @TexasSam if you would indulge me.
How old are your birds?
How many birds total?
In how big(feet by feet) of a coop and run?
The birds I have are between 12 months and 10 months. My coop is 4x8x8 the run is fairly small maybe 4x8 they are free during the day. The new hen (red leghorn) is 8 months she is still shy around me but sleeps right next to the others like she has always been there she isn't laying very often or she is laying somewhere I haven't discovered yet. She follows the roosters directions but hangs back some but she knows her place. This has been the best way I have tried so far. I am not saying that everyone should do this without concern. I am saying it is something that everyone should keep in mind and experiment with.

One quastion please, what if she is infected with the MDV, and you just entered to your coop the worst chicken pathogen ever?
