Who here has less than 1 acre and neighbors?

I have 8 guinea hens and one guinea cock on less than an acre. I live in a residential neighborhood. I share a backyard with two other neighbors, so together, the guineas have free run of 3/10ths of an acre. Some things I have done to keep them contained is to clip wings from the time they started to be able to fly even a little bit. This keeps them from even realizing they can fly, so they mostly stay in the yard. I have to go get one or two from the immediately surrounding yards at least three times a week, but they go no further. They jump the four foot fence, and then can't figure out how to jump it back into the yard. Yes, I have had some losses to stray dogs when they jump the fence, but my own flock guard dog does a pretty good job making sure no dogs get in the fenced in yard. Yes, they can be extremely loud. I know all my neighbors extremely well, and they tell me if the guineas are making too much noise at night, or early in the morning, which isn't very often. If the guineas are consistently being noisy too early or at night, I put them in a special enclosed "box" I have in the hen house each evening so that I can control when they are out and about. My guineas were all raised with my chickens by a broody chicken, so they think they are chickens and roost in the hen house at night. I usually only have to close them up in the "too noisy box" for a few days and then they calm down again and can be let out for nighttime to roost again.

During the day, the guineas are very loud sometimes, so unless you already know your neighbors very well, they could be an annoyance. All my closest neighbors don't mind the noise during the day, and always call me if a guinea is out so I can come get it.

This thread gives me hope.

I know my neighbors all well and so far they haven't had a problem with our rooster and extremely noisy dogs that go nuts when we let them outside to play. 2 days ago, I let the guineas out of the brooder to socialize with the chickens and so far things are going good. There has been a little bit of bullying, but that's to be expected. Nothing major and the guineas haven't gotten hurt by any of them.

They can already fly pretty high and out of the run so I'm clipping one wing on each today to hopefully discourage that. Thankfully they never go anywhere and just keep trying to get back in the run. I've been lucky so far.

When do they start getting their adult voices?

More space isn't always better space. My neighboring property recently changed hands and turned into a rental. The new inhabitants have decided that ideal recreation would include tearing up the front field in their clapped out pick up truck and run their dirtbikes when they tire of that. Mufflers, are apparently optional in their world. Now I am wondering if I should give up on tick patrol and build a huge run for my guineas as they will surely get the short end of the stick should they wander out of my yard in the wrong direction.
