Kassaundra, great pics, especially the gorilla ones, which are one of my favorite animals.

I can't go to the zoo, it breaks my heart to see these beautiful animals confined like that.

My kids figure some day they'll have to bail me out because they fear I'll become an activist and sneak into a zoo and start freeing animals! I probably would if I had a way to return them to where they belong, but don't see much point in setting them free in a city... heck I won't even live in the city!

I am torn b/c I hate the thought of wild animals confined as well, but zoo's are doing an amazing job at animal conservation and working w/ endangered species for wild conservation. They are also doing a much better job of living conditions as close to normal as they can get and enrichment activities/environment. And I will never be able to afford to see these beautiful animals in their natural environment. It isn't a perfect system, but it is much better then in used to be and the animals are cared for and loved by those dedicated zoo personnel.

Kass, I agree there are some great programs out there and many are doing a fine job... nor could I ever afford to see them in their natural habitat. Despite all the strides made in recent years to provide better habitats and better treatment, I still can't go to the zoo

wish I had the heart for it, would love to go with the grandkids, I remember when we took my girls when they were young, they were so amazed.

WOW guys!!! Some very impressive photos since I have been on last!

Two Creeks, absolutley stunning pics of the birds. The sport shots a great as well.
Kass, Great shots of the critters. I can never get decent shots at the zoo.
Chickerdoodle, great action shots. I am practicing on those as well but I have a feeling it will be awhile before I will let anyone see those.

Well, I went back to the little pond that I saw the cranes at and unfortunately they were on the other side of the water so I could not get any photos of them. I did manage to snap a few shots of a juvie Mocking Bird.

Even though this bird was a young one he still had the cussedness of all Mocking Birds around here. Kind of hard to take a decent photo when I was on the run from an 8oz bird.

Everyone the shots recently posted are really good, love the birds. I somhow missed the atv shots the first time had to go back and see what you were talking about, really good, I especially like the one w/ the mud splashing.

peewee I know what you mean about the mocking bird. I had a very proud cat once who was very proud of his tail it always remained elevated, the ONLY thing to make Dartanion lower his tail was a mocking bird!!!!

I'm new here but I love photography. I have a Nikon D50 and a couple lenses (I prefer fixed). I tried doing portrait photography but I found that I am WAY to shy to do stranger shoots. I'm too scared to talk to them. haha I did do a couple shoots, though. The ones with the boy are my son. I did the best with him b/c I can boss him around.

I also have a Panasonic Lumix p&s that I use most of the time and it takes great pictures (and the settings are fairly adjustable). Today I was taking pictures of my chickens with my D50. I took about 100 pics before I realized that I was shooting in RAW and my computer that has Photoshop on it is locked up with a virus atm. I don't have a way to convert them to jpeg. *grumble*

Here are some pics
