Had the search term been "white chick" I'm sure that the results would have been equally surprising, especially given that I was looking at work during my lunch break for chickens, not suggestively posed women.

I have since found out that my bird is also called a "Black Star".

Forewarned is forearmed: don't search google images for "bite". It's very ugly. Look for "apple bite" or something more benign.

I think it's a GOOD sign that I didn't even THINK of people when I typed that... I was all about the chickens! I have also googled yellow chicks, striped chicks... etc... since I got a mixed bag of purebred babies I wasn't sure WHAT I had!

I hope you don't decide that you are offended... I am laughing at myself more that I didn't think of the "chick = girl" part of this than anything else. The only reason I didn't type in "white chicks" is that I didn't get any from the hatchery!

Thank you for your apology though it's really not necessary. Thank you for being sensitive to what I am feeling. After a few hours hiatus from BYC, I have decided that the naivete of typing any color that humans get categorized as and then chick afterwards is just that. People here are looking for chickens. As someone who classifies herself as a brown American you can imagine that I am sensitive to race issues. I was even bothered on the thread that was locked yesterday when people wrote, "show me your blacks."

C'mon peeps! No one here means to be a racist. Really. I have mixed-race kids I post pics of all the time, and all I get are compliments. BYC folks are good hearted. Lets all just get a grip and get back to the well meaning start of this thread.

We are good folks with good things to think about and say. Let's celebrate that!

I was on a mini-road trip yesterday and my mind wandered to this thread and how we sometimes google things not thinking of the alternative meanings... I thought... "What if I was googling dogs and typed in 'blue eyed huskies' would I get some sort of Swedish chubby chaser site?"
