Who is experiencing smoky air?

It ALWAYS happens--sometime between July and September, the large valley we live in fills up with smoke. It's there if we have fires in the next state, it's bad if we have fires in the nearby counties, and it's horrid if we have fires in the valley itself. Sometimes it gets so bad the sun looks blood red. This year it's okay--so far. We have some fires elsewhere in the state, but no red sun yet. Who else is experiencing smoky air?

I'm in Southern Oregon, which is currently on fire. I'm about 20 miles south of the Glendale area fires and things are horrid. I'm currently in the hospital in Portland, but am anticipating not being outside much when I go home and/or wearing a mask. My family says it's pretty bad there with the smoke and ash.

We have your Oregon smoke here in Northern California. The valley is really smokey and my eyes are super dry! I can't imagine what it would be like to live closer because we are probably 400 miles away from those fires!

We live in southern Oregon. I've had to keep my kids in the house all week due to hazardous air quality. We can at least see the sky today but i was just informed by my neighbor that we are still at hazardous levels. Hoping it clears up soon.

donrae and pouchiepouchie, (welcome to BYC) how are your chickens doing in the smoke? I am just on the other side of the fires. When the wind shifts we will be in for it. In past summers smoke in our valley gets thick enough to see it between the house and coop. This looks much much worse. Take care and stay safe.

Well, my husband says he can see the neighbor's houses today, that's apparently an improvement! Sounds like masks for me, and inside with the air purifier going full blast.
